For
Immediate Release
I
am a hero at
least on FCBD!
With Golden and Silver Age comics recently selling for
over a million dollars an issue, only billionaires like
Tony Stark, from Marvel Comic’s upcoming summer
blockbuster Iron Man 2, can afford to continue to
collect the vintage comics. However, the first Saturday
in May represents a holiday for comic fans across the
world know as Free Comic Book Day, where price is of no
real concern. Participating comic store retailers
distribute free comics to anyone with no strings
attached. A day where anyone can read about and
dream of becoming superheroes, introducing millions to
the unique art form and storytelling method that has
delighted and inspired millions more.
Jamie Colegrove of
Packrat Comics in Hilliard explained “As Hollywood
continues to adapt comic books in into billion dollar
blockbusters, adding more special effects and CGI than
either Stan Lee or Jack Kirby could have imagined, the
medium remains loyal to its fans and we continue to
celebrate and enjoy this truly original and unique
American art form.” And on occasion, the comics
imitate Hollywood , so this year Packrat is bringing
Hollywood to Columbus . Joss Whedon’s successful
television series Buffy The Vampire Slayer continued
season eight in comic form entertaining millions with
his brilliant story telling. None of his
characters were more relatable then that of Xander
Harris, a key team member without any notable powers.
He was loyal and watchful, kind and courageous even when
he was a bit clumsy. Xander Harris, portrayed by
Nicholas Brendon who currently stars in the his CBS
televisions series “Criminal Minds”, will be making
a special guest appearance at Packrat on Free Comic Book
Day, helping us to remember that there are heroes in all
of us even if we can’t fly or bend steel.
To celebrate this annual event, Packrat Comics will be
hosting their annual Free Comic Book Day party. In
addition to all the free swag created exclusively for
the event even stars attending the Oscars envy, kids of
all ages can enjoy a festival of activities along with
video game tournaments and special guest appearances by
a multitude of costume characters. Industry
icons such as Darryl Banks most notably known for
his past work on "Green Lantern", Chris
Sprouse who helped create Tom Strong with Alan Moore and
whose upcoming work includes DC Comics “Return of
Bruce Wayne”, Marvel Comics cover artist Josh Medors
and many more will be available signing comics and
creating sketches for all in attendance.
Immediately following an afternoon of comic fun, Packrat
will conclude the afternoon with their annual Nerd
Night, hosting a charity poker tournament with live
bands and comedians entertaining throughout the evening.
Throughout
the afternoon Packrat Comics will also be working with
The Hero Initiative, a non-profit organization that
supports comic creators. The Hero Initiative creates a
financial safety net for comic creators who may need
emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials
of life, and an avenue back into paying work.
Since inception, the Hero Initiative has been fortunate
enough to benefit over 40 creators and their families
with over $400,000 worth of much-needed aid, fueled by
contributions! It's
a chance for everyone to become the hero and give back
something to the people who have given so much
enjoyment.
So
on Saturday, May 1st, stop by your local
comic shop, get a free comic, have some fun and maybe
one day you too will be selling a comic to the likes of
a real life Tony Stark.
For
additional information contact Jamie Colegrove at (614)
527-8450 or via email at packratcomics@sbcglobal.net.
Established
in 1993, Packrat Comics is a premier full service comic
book store family owned and operated by Jamie &
Teresa Colegrove serving all of central Ohio .

(02-14-10) - Wow, it has been eighteen years ago
today that Underground Video Network was launched on the local access channel in
Kenton, Ohio at 11:30pm Friday
February 14, 1992 after seeing "Wayne's World".
All that was broadcast that night was an "EXIT" sign to see if it
would even work.
(We did have viewers that night and you know who you are.)
Then it grew to what it is today and I just want to thank all the crews that
have been involved with each incarnation over the years to keep this alive
today.
It would not have been what it is with out your help.
Thanks
Richard
THANK YOU FOR WATHCING OUR SHOW
TUNE IN NEXT WEEK FOR ANOTHER ACTION FILLED EPISODE OF:

Dave
Arhar to appear at Main Street Comics and Games, Springfield Ohio!
That’s
right! Main Street Comics and Games is proud to present
writer/artist/publisher Dave Arhar of Penny Dreadful Press Saturday
February 27th from 2:00-6:00. The shop itself is just weeks
away from turning one year old and as the very last of the first 365
days are being count down we decided to end this first year with a
bang!
Main
Street Comics and Games has become known as “THE HOTBED OF CREATIVE
TALENT IN THE OHIO” and are very proud to add Dave to the list of
great guests we have been blessed in having at the store in 2009 and
early 2010.
Dave
is from the Cleveland Ohio area and one of the most imaginative and
creative talents working in independent comics today. He will be
stopping by to support several of his current projects including…
Gothic
Romance , a nice little
“horror anthology” if you want to call it that features stories
that are not only suspenseful but at the same time each tale takes a
twisted look into a dark romance of one kind or another. One of the
most talked indie books of the last year.
The
Faustians, a truly
ingenious book about a support group for those who have sold their
souls to the Devil…and want out of the deal. Dark and intelligent,
Dave will have the first issue of this ongoing series available to be
bought and signed.
And
finally…
Franklinstein…..a
story that poses the question….what if Ben Franklin and not Victor
Frankenstein had discovered how to re-animate the dead by harnessing
the raw power locked within a bolt of lightning? Amazing story concept
and great art. Get in on the ground floor of what is sure to be a huge
hit as Dave will have promotional ash can copies of this forthcoming
book on hand.
So
mark your colanders.
February
27th
Dave
Arhar.
